im sick again...

I'm sick again. Yes, i've been in and out the doctors all these months and no i'm not purposely getting sick. Im just naturally weak.. :(

So i've decided to do some research on why i fall sick so easily or anything that can explain my "weakness"... Besides, im free and im sick and i have nothing to do and i do like studying...

'Health', according to the World Health Organization, is "a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being." It is the absence of disease and infirmity and the ability to respond effectively to one's environment.

But what needs to be understood is that health is very much subjective to the culture that we live in. What may be healthy in the west might be deemed ill in the east.

And healthy can also be seen not as physically well, but morally well too. (hm, making sense?)

Using the concept of ethnomedicine, which refers to medical systems of particular cultures. i shall attempt to describe the different and various perceptions of the body in several cultures.

In japan, "Jibyou" means an illness that a person carries throughout life and suffers at some times more acutely than at other times.

For example, some people's jibyou are allergies or asthmas or a heart condition. It can be something severe from an internal condition to something as simple as stammerings.

Interestingly, Japanese also believe that everyone has jibyou, everyone has something wrong with them.

My jibyou is that i fall sick all the time. I have the jibyou of jibyous! (not proud of it though)

Chinese believe in the humoral healing system. the belief in the balance of elements in the body. Yin and Yang, hot and cold. Hence, they strictly comply to the consumption of both "hot" and "cooling" food and not just one side.

Food groups such as tea, depending on which type, have both hot and cold characteristics. Its usually taken to dispell the "heatiness" of the body.

i think i have taken too much "heaty" food. fried food, beef and pork... yummy.

Hm... there are illnesses that are "culturally bound syndromes" meaning only certain cultures have it but it doesnt really apply to me so yar... not going to mention it.

and then there is the famous western medicine, well, if you want the scientific explainations, i think it has something to do with a weak immune system that has been damaged by improper consumption of medication (not taking any when i should, taking more than what i should not)

so, what is really important is that although we all get sick, different people perceive it differently, even those that are sick perceive their own illnesses differently (symbolic interactionist perspective)

and there are those who dont even care if you're sick but is more concerned with how your sickness came about and they blame it on inequity and poorer social statuses, which i agree to some extent... (conflict perspective)

there are those who wish to know what happens once you're sick and what kind of function can u provide to society (structural functionalist perspective).

To tie in all concepts... its most likely your fault that you are sick, but the fault does not lie entirely with you. What should be done is not to focus on your sickness but rather find out the cause and deal with it and see what u can do even though you are still sick!... :)

yea. applying concepts sia.... hm.. im truly bored...
