Found my old post (click here) and it prompted me to write this...
Dear Stacey-of-a-year-ago,
I'm sitting at the exact same desk you were sitting when we wrote that letter. It's been close to a year and our bags are packed, ready to be taken to a new place. We are just waiting for the final check-out before we fly back to Singapore tonight.
Many things have happened in the last few months, many wondrous things that have exceeded our expectations. As I read your letter, I can't help but tell you how glad we are, how insanely happy we have been.
We've done it. We had dream of finishing our Masters, studying abroad, living life to the fullest, each year being better than the year before and we have done it. I would not be sitting here if you had not take that courageous step last year to apply, to change, to move on.
We have gone beyond academia and kept ourselves busy with activities, being in London, we have done things we would never think of taking up in Singapore. We have gone regularly to Yoga, took up Fencing, tried Krav Magra, went for drawing classes. We have volunteered in church and outside of it. We have gone for numerous social events, been to networking sessions, dancing sessions and tried many glorious dishes in some of London's best restaurants. We have drank, partied, studied, house visit and even host parties. We have made friends but never lose them, we have kept true to ourselves and not done anything we would regret or think twice of. We have truly lived.
We have traveled extensively. Gone to more than 50 new places, just what we had set out to do. Visited Spain, Italy, Portugal, France, Croatia, Namibia just to name a few. We have explored actively and did not shun away at times when we had to be on our own. We have been generous with others and with ourselves, finally learning to let go of material wealth. We have been responsible, mature and dependable and we have been silly and fun and comfortable to be around. We have danced on the streets of London, dressed up for Halloween and participated in some very quirky set ups in London.
It was not all smooth sailing, there have been some losses, there have been some scares, there have been broken hearts but there have always been someone there or a time and space to heal. We got through everything alright, each time a stronger person emerges. When we laugh, we laugh genuinely. And when we cry, we did it only out of love. So yes, we have loved ourselves and we have loved others back. Has London made me a better person? I think we would both agree it has.
And we have found love too. Or rather, love has found us. In a nice quaint place off Charing Cross road (a place very near your future office which we would start in mid-september), dressed in a white collared shirt with blue chinos and a gorgeous smile. So don't worry, I think we are in very good hands.
The future looks very promising, I can't wait to get started with our next step forward.
Love,
